Data backups save the content of the data area to a different location in the file system. Depending on the usage scenario, this includes the replicated business data.
Data backups are carried out manually:
SAP HANA studio
DBA Cockpit
SQL commands (command line)
Scheduling
Using scripts (via the SQL interface)
Planning calendar in DBA Cockpit
Backup frequency
Regular data backups required, but general guidelines available (depends on the usage scenario)
Space requirements
Only occupied space is backed up
Recovery Procedure:
To recover a SAP HANA database, perform the following steps:
1. From SAP HANA studio, open the context menu over the database.
2. Choose Recovery... A dialog box is displayed, requesting that you confirm that the system can be shut down for the recovery.
3. Confirm and choose Next.
4. Specify the recovery type
Points to Note:
Data backup is only available in operational mode online (Online Backup). During data backup, the system is available as usual.
During recovery, the database cannot be accessed by end-users and applications.
Provide all data and log backups at the beginning of a recovery.
Once started, recovery cannot be cancelled. If a recovery fails, the complete recovery must be repeated. Backups can be canceled since SPS4.
The configuration path for data and log backup must be defined system wide and not host-specific
Backup supports files and pipes as backup media.
When the backup finishes, it is checked for any inconsistencies.
